News / Bernadette Callery Joins iSchool Faculty

Bernadette Callery will join the Faculty of the iSchool as an Assistant Professor in September 2008.  Dr. Callery has served as a Visiting Assistant Professor since 2007 and as an adjunct since 2000.  She has been teaching courses in the Archives, Preservation and Records Management area.  As of September, she will be the lead faculty member for this very popular specialization in the MLIS program.

Prior to joining the faculty here at the iSchool, Dr. Callery was the Museum Librarian at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History Library.  While there, she oversaw the Museum Library relocation (2003-2005) and supervised graduate students from the iSchool’s field experience program.  From 1987-1994, Dr. Callery served as the Research Librarian at the New York Botanical Garden Library and as the Co-curator of “Nature’s Mirror:  200 Years of Botanical Illustration,” a collaborative effort of the New York Botanical Garden, the New York Public Library, and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
Callery received her B.A. in English from Seton Hill College; her Master’s in Library Science from the University of Chicago; and her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh.  She has published extensively in prestigious journals including Legal Issues in Museum Administration, Journal of Internet Cataloging, and American Archivist.  She has made presentations at the Mid-Atlantic Archives Conference, the Society of American Archivists, and the Midwest Archivist Conference.
