Mission Statement

Purpose

To assist in improving the quality of the School of Information Sciences by providing candid, comprehensive, and informed reactions to its educational objectives and programs, and by providing advice on its planning efforts.

Composition

Membership on the Board of Visitors of the School of Information Sciences includes University Trustees, corporate and business community representa­tion, distinguished librarians, professional educators, and others expert in particu­lar fields of study.  One of the University's Trustees serves as Chairperson.  Terms of service are speci­fied and additions or replacements to the Board are made by the Chancellor of the University on the recommenda­tion of the Dean.

Meetings

The Board of Visitors of the School of Information Sciences meets for one and one-half days each year, normally in the fall.  An agenda and relevant supporting and informational materials are distributed well in advance of the meeting.

Reports

The Chairperson of the School of Information Sciences Board of Visitors summarizes the findings of the Board in a written report to the Chancellor of the University following the meeting of the Board.  A copy of the report is also directed to the Provost of the University.  A formal response to the report is submitted prior to the next meeting of the Board.
