1. Prepare to self-enroll for classes -- Verify that you have an active Pitt computer account. -- Browse the semester's course offerings. We suggest browsing the catalog to view all course offerings within a given department:Pages 6-8 of the "Searching for classes and course information" document - PDF
-- Speak with your academic advisor to identify the classes you intend to take (see advising policies). -- Check your account for holds and for your enrollment appointment: Access the Pitt Portal >> Student Center Login >> Self Service >> Student Center. The screen should look something like this. The enrollment appointment is the first date on which you will be able to self-enroll in classes. For example, if your enrollment appointment is October 29th at 11 a.m., you will not be able to use the online system to register for classes until that date and time. On or after your enrollment appointment, you will be able to use the online system as often as you would like until the end of the drop/add period for that semester.
Please note: There are no enrollment appointment dates for summer classes; there is simply one date on the Registrar's Calendar that defines when students can start using the online system to register for summer classes.
Also, if you are a new student, you do not have an enrollment appointment for the semester in which you were admitted - online registration will be open to you during the "open enrollment" period, which occurs after all the enrollment appointments have taken place. To learn the date of the "open enrollment" period for your first semester of registration, please contact the Registrar.
-- Know the registration deadlines! You can find these on the Registrar's calendar. If you are a continuing student, there is a fee if you miss the appropriate registration deadline date.
2. Watch the tutorial videos --Log into the Pitt Portal >> UNDER the Student Center Login link, click on "Learn More." On the right hand side of the screen are several flash-based videos that demo the registration steps. 3. Request a permission code (if applicable) -- If you receive an error message while attempting to register for a course, you may need a permission code. Find instructions for obtaining a permission code here.4. Self-enroll in classes 5. Ask questions! -- If you have any questions, please contact Student Services:412-624-5230
