Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Student Loans

Aid, scholarships, and loans typically are addressed at the admissions phase of your interaction with the University, so by now you have probably already worked on these issues. However, here are a few clarifications on items students have typically been confused about in the past:

  • If you have certain kinds of loans or aid, they might not be given to you until after you register, however the paperwork for loans and aid SHOULD be started before you register - if the paperwork is completed before you register, the loans and aid are often then issued more quickly.

  • If you are an international student, in all cases you need to provide proof that you are fully funded for your studies in the iSchool at Pitt.

  • If you are an MLIS student, are part of the Partners Program, and have questions about that program, please contact JoAnn Kavalukas.

  • If you are a graduate student and have questions about any aid or loan process or procedure (OTHER than the Partners Program), please contact Corey James.

  • If you are a graduate student in Telecommunications and have questions about scholarships, please contact David Tipper.

  • If you are a graduate student in Information Sciences and have questions about scholarships, please contact Hassan Karimi.

  • If you are a graduate student in Library and Information Sciences and have questions about scholarships, please contact Debbie Day.

  • If you are an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences program and have questions about loans, aid, and/or scholarships, please contact the University of Pittsburgh Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.

  • Faculty in SIS may nominate you for awards within the School, and in some cases you can compete for a subset of those awards.

  • There are gift funds that are awarded by faculty to students as well.
