Usability study of the editorial process

This component involved observation of a technical editor performing the tasks that are a normal part of the comment resolution phase of standard's development. Verbal protocols were gathered. In addition, micro-activity logs (keystroke and button press logs) were accumulated. The editorial tasks were 1) reviewing comments and 2) generating reports of outstanding issues. We wanted to determine whether the system could augment the editorial tasks. That is, we wanted to know whether some of the features of CASCADE that are not a normal part of the traditional method of handling comments would be useful. Such tasks included ability to navigate the document hierarchy via a graphical browser and to perceive the relationships between comments and the document to which they were related.
