Restricted Classes
If you are a student in the School of Information Sciences, you may register
for any open IST or LIS class at any time during the registration and the drop/add
period. If you are a student in another school or department, you may request
permission to register for a SIS course and your name will be placed on a waiting
list until the beginning of the drop/add period. If a space is available, you
will be registered for the course.
Undergrads Only
If you are an undergraduate student in another school or department wishing
to register for a restricted BSIS course, you must wait until the second
week of the appropriate registration period, to pick up a Special Permission
slip. You must then return the Special Permission slip to your current
school to process your registration and/or an add/drop form. Call Mary
Koller 412-624-5143 for further details.
Closed Classes
If a class is closed at the time you register, your name will be added
to the waiting list in the order in which you register. If you are an
undergraduate student, you should see Mary Koller in the BSIS office,
5th floor IS Building for permission or a space on the waiting list.
The waiting list is given to the instructor of the course when the
course begins, and the instructor will sign the Admission to Restricted/Closed
Class Form if a seat becomes available at the first class. If you are
a graduate student, you should see our Registration
Specialist in the Dean's Office (500C IS Building) for
permission or a spot on the waiting list. You will be notified by email
or by telephone if a seat becomes available before the first class.
