Congratulations to Jonathan Estrin and Harold Thiele who were well represented in the recent Winter 1998 issue of the _Katherine Sharp Review_ published by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Jonathan published two essays -- "Instructional Communication as a Core Competency: A Call for Curricular Change in Professional Library Education" and "From Bibliographic Instruction to Instructional Management: A Process-Oriented Approach for Reengineering Library Instruction Programs" -- and Harold published "Appraisal, Provenance, and the Computer Revolution: An Examination of Organizational Records in the Electronic Age." Congrats to these two doctoral students. - Archival Studies Program Web pages now available!

- Robert B. Croneberger 1937-1998
Robert Croneberger taught as an adjunct professor in the Department of Library and Information Science for ten years and was a member of the Board of Visitors at the time of his death. He will be greatly missed.

- Second Plate Arrives at SIS!
The long awaited Second Plate Food Service will be open for business on Monday, March 9 beginning at 8:00 a.m. It will be located on the Second Floor of the IS Building in the Student Lounge.
Their service will include breakfast items such as bagels, sweet rolls, coffee, etc. Lunch will include hot soups and sandwiches. The Second Plate will be open until 6:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday to accommodate the evening students. - Invitational Workshop on Information Retrieval Tools

Congratulations to Professor Blanche Woolls, who has been named Director of the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University. Dr. Woolls has been on the faculty of the Department of Library and Information Science since 1973, and she will be missed by colleagues and students at the University of Pittsburgh. - New Information Ethics Web Site!
The School of Information Sciences is proud to announce the new Information Ethics Web Site which was developed by Barbara Rockenbach, our first Information Ethics Fellow. Amanda Utts has been chosen as the Information Ethics Fellow for the Fall term, and she will continue to develop the Web site which Barbara Rockenbach has started. - New Faculty Members!
Dr. Hong Xu received her MLIS from Wuhan University, P.R. China, and Ph.D from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She comes to SIS from the Department of Computer Science at the State University of New York at Oswego where she has been teaching courses in database management systems and online information systems.
Dr. Elizabeth Yakel received an AMLS from the University of Michigan, School of Library and Information Studies, and her Ph.D from the School of Information. She has been working on the Medical Collaboratory Project at the University of Michigan; and teaching in the areas of archives, preservation and records management.
