“Music
Understanding by Computer” |
||
Abstract: Computers are used in many ways for music analysis and music composition. One problem with computers performing musical tasks is that most computers have no real knowledge of music. However, researchers continue to make progress in the area of music understanding systems. This talk will demonstrate some music understanding tasks that have been automated. Speaker's Bio:Roger B. Dannenberg is
Associate Research Professor of Computer Science and
Art at Carnegie Mellon University, where he received
a Ph.D. in 1982. He is well known for his work in interactive
computer music systems, especially computers that accompany
live musicians. Thousands of music students use this
technology every day. Dr. Dannenberg is also a composer,
and he plays trumpet professionally in a local jazz quartet
and big band. |
