A Simple Alternative to the Relational Model

Abstract: A simple alternative to the relational model is developed, based on the conceptual view. It defines all tables as relations of degree two, the entity field or fields and the attribute fields. The explicit designation of the intended entities and their attributes removes the need for the insertion/deletion anomalies, explicit decomposition of tables, and the need to explicitly check for entity and relational integrity. These are accomplished through the initial design of the tables, in the designation of the attributes and the intended entities.
