mANAGING SYSTEM ARTIFACTS "

Tuesday, March 16, 2004
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Room 405, IS Building

Abstract: One aspect of software engineering that is integral to all the lifecycle phase is that of managing various system artifacts. Without loss of generality we focus on management of code as the most complex of all the system artifact to manage. We provide motivation and background for configuration management. We discuss configuration in terms of product space and version space. Components and structures define the product space. A variety of different kinds of versions define the version space for each element in the product space. This lecture will delineate the general principles and concepts needed in managing system objects and illustrate them with various examples.
