“Academic
Libraries – Changing the Context for Scholarship” |
||
Abstract: Academic libraries are vibrant, crowded and lively, even as they deliver more of their content to the desktop. Forecast to wither away, they have instead used digital technology to reassert their place at the heart of the campus. Bio: Nancy Davenport, the President of the Council on Library and Information Resources, will discuss the changing roles of the academic library on the campuses of research universities and liberal arts colleges. Davenport, an MLS graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, was the Director of Acquisitions at the Library of Congress prior to assuming the leadership of CLIR. Her previous work includes posts as the Associate Director of the Congressional Research Service and a six year assignment working with the developing democratic parliaments of Central and Eastern Europe. She serves on the Board of the National Information Standards Organization and the US National Committee for UNESCO, and was recently named a fellow of the Louis Round Wilson Academy.
