“The
Development and Strategies of Digital Libraries in
China” |

Abstract: This talk focuses on the development and strategies of digital libraries in China, several national level strategies and challenge issues are discussed. Three parts are included in the talk. The first part will briefly introduce the major digital library Initiatives and projects in China. The second part will discuss the standard issues and strategies of digital libraries in China. In the last part, knowledge based digital library infrastructure, personalization service, digital library and e-learning are discussed. Speaker Bio: Dr. Zhendong Niu received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Beijing Institute of Technology in 1995. He was a post-doctoral researcher at University of Pittsburgh from 1996 to 1998, and a researcher/adjunct faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University from 1999 to 2003. He is the deputy dean and a professor at the Software School at Beijing Institute of Technology, and he is also the CTO of China Digital Library Corp. Ltd. (major provider of consulting services). Dr. Niu's research areas focus on digital libraries,
e-learning, personalization modeling, intelligent agents
etc. He is an editorial board member for the international
journal of learning technology and an editorial board
member for the Journal of Modern Information and an editorial
board member for the Journal of Modern Information and
Technology. He has published more than 30 papers in journals
and international conferences. He received an IBM Eclipse
Innovation Grant Award in 2005. |
