Gary
D. Byrd is the Director of the Health Sciences Library at
the University at Buffalo: The State University of
New York. He is an Associate Librarian, Adjunct Associate
Professor, and Director of the Advanced Graduate Certificate
Training Program in Medical/Health Informatics in the School
of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He
holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill in library and information science and masters
degrees in library science from the University of Minnesota,
and English literature from the University of Virginia. His
previous career includes leadership positions in the Health
Sciences Libraries of the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill, University of Missouri at Kansas City, and University
of South Dakota as well as postgraduate training and work
as a Technical Information Specialist at the National Library

Herb Elish
was the Director of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. He
served as Chairman and CEO of Weirton Steel Corp from 1987
through 1995. He then
served as chairman of the City of Pittsburgh Housing Authority. Mr.
Elish holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard Law School,
and has held a variety of management positions in both the
corporate and public sectors. During his career, he
served on the Civil Aeronautics Board, and was Commissioner
of Sanitation and Administrator of the Environmental Protection
Administration for the City of New York. He was also
Vice President of Citibank and served as Senior Vice President
at both International Paper and the Dreyfus Corporation. |

David H. Holtzman
is President of GlobalPOV, CTO of Pseuds Inc., and author
of 'Privacy Lost.' As former CTO of Network Solutions and
Manager of the Internet's master root server during the late
1990's, he not only oversaw the growth of the Internet from
500,000 domain names to over 20 million, he also led the
way in imagining and inventing a world in which technology
positively impacts every facet of human life. His career
began in the field of technology with the US Navy as a cryptographic
analyst and submariner, and at the Defense Special Missile
and Astronautics Center as an intelligence analyst. He holds
a BS in Computer Science from the University of Maryland
and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh,
as well as being an honors graduate in Russian from the Defense
Language Institute in Monterey, California.

William Isler
is President of Family Communications, where he oversees

media, and training materials. Bill was an elementary school
teacher, childcare teacher, and administrator of a multi-service
program for children before being Executive Assistant to
the Secretary of Education and Commissioner of Basic Education

in 1986 after thirteen years at the US Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency (DARPA). CNRI was created as a not-for-profit

Clifford Lynch
has been the Director of the Coalition for Networked Information
(CNI) since July 1997. CNI, jointly sponsored by the Association
of Research Libraries and Educause, includes about 200 member
organizations concerned with the use of information technology
and networked information to enhance scholarship and intellectual
productivity. Prior to joining CNI, Lynch spent 18 years
at the University of California Office of the President,
the last 10 as Director of Library Automation. Lynch, who
holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of
California, Berkeley, is an adjunct professor at Berkeley's
School of Information. He is a past president of the American
Society for Information Science and a fellow of the American
Association for the Advancement of Science and the National
Information Standards Organization. Lynch serves on the National
Digital Preservation Strategy Advisory Board of the Library
of Congress; he was a member of the National Research Council
committees that published The Digital Dilemma: Intellectual
Property in the Information Infrastructure and Broadband:
Bringing Home the Bits, and now serves on the NRC's committee
on digital archiving and the National Archives and Records
Administration.

Michael Macedonia
is the VP and GM of Forterra Systems in Orlando, FL. Before
this, he was the Chief Technology Officer for US Army Program
Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation
(PEO STRI, formerly known as STRICOM). Here he was
responsible for developing the technology strategy for the
Army’s leading training and instrumentation acquisition
organization. He led the Army’s effort to develop
the Institute for Creative Technologies, initiated the Full
Spectrum Warrior X-Box project, and established the Massive
Multiplayer Game project. A graduate of West Point,
he served as an infantry officer in a variety of command
and staff position in the US and overseas assignments including
Germany and the Middle East. He has a Ph.D. in Computer

Daniel P.
Mulhollan has been Director of the Congressional Research

years. Prior to this position, he served as Acting Deputy
Librarian of Congress for two years. He joined the Congressional
Research Service in 1969 as an analyst in American national
government in the Government and General Research Division
and served Congress in a number of important matters, including
the Senate Watergate Committee and the House Judiciary Committee
during the Nixon Impeachment. In 1991 he was named chief

White is Director of the Wireless Network Security Center
(WiNSeC) at Stevens Institute of Technology. White,
whose background is rich in technology R&D and high-tech
business development, had served for two years as WiNSeC’s
deputy director. WiNSeC was founded at Stevens in 2002 with
Dr. Paul Kolodzy as its first director. He has worked
as a technologist, venture capitalist, and business executive,
with experience in both the research lab and the technology
marketplace. As WiNSeC’s Associate Director, White
played a lead role in securing funding from government and
in developing technologies for commercialization. Before
Stevens, he was the chief technologist for the Communications
Group at Safeguard Scientifics Inc.; a Principal at Arthur
D. Little; Vice President of Telecommunication Strategy,
Bell Atlantic; and headed R&D groups at Bellcore (now
Telcordia) and Bell Laboratories. He also served as a member
of the Board of Directors of SOTAS, Inc., a startup that
developed fraud detection software for the communications
industry, and as a member of the Advisory Board of Extant,
Inc., a Safeguard portfolio company that developed and operated
a long distance network. White’s technological contributions
include work in voice over IP services, and his R&D team
at Bellcore co-developed (with France Telecom) the ATM protocol,
now widely used by telecommunications carriers. He has authored
numerous papers on telecommunication topics, was awarded
seven patents and written chapters for two books. In addition,
he is a frequent speaker at conferences on telecommunications. He
earned a doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering
from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. He is currently

Mary Clare
Zales is the Deputy Secretary of Commonwealth Libraries for
the Pennsylvania Department of Education where she oversees
