Course Description

In this course, the student will be exposed to concepts underlying automated information retrieval. Most of the course will focus on retrieval from databases of textual information, including indexing procedures, representation of document sets and queries, and matching queries to document sets. Other topics include image databases, data compression, and visualization tools.

Academic integrity expectations

With the exception of explicitly designanted group projects, all assignments are the responsibility of the student to complete personally. Copying homework problems is not allowed. Students may help each other at a conceptual level, and may even work on problems similar to the homework together, but the actual homework exercises are to be completed by the individual who is submitting the assignment. Students should be prepared to explain how an exercise was done. Click here for the School of Information Sciences academic integrity policy.
