Course Description
Mathematics generally provides the tools for scientific pursuits. And
when it doesn't, a new formalism emerges and is labelled a branch of
mathemtics. Like most jokes, this statement is based on truth. In this
course, considerable time will be spent on discrete mathematics, much of
which was developed to subserve computer science. The course will cover
aspects of combinatorics, set theory, graphs, finite state machines, and
matrix and vector operations.
