The Placement ProcessFollowing the January 15 application deadline, the participating Partners will receive student applications for review based on skill and background requirements for a particular position. Not all placements require experience in a library setting and many consider customer service the appropriate background. Partners initiate contact directly either by e-mail or telephone with the students they wish to interview. Partners are encouraged to conduct telephone interviews or, if the student is local, a personal interview can be requested. Once that process is completed, it is the decision of the Partner to whom an offer of placement is extended. It is the responsibility of the student to understand the particulars of any position such as transportation and salary, stipend, or non-salary issues. No offer is official unless notification is made directly by the Partners administration. Most students will have their application reviewed by more than one Partner. This process can take 4-6 weeks and sometimes longer. In addition, as the reputation of the Partners Program continues to grow in the Pittsburgh and surrounding communities, new Partners are added to the Program on a continuing basis. It is possible that a student could be contacted for an interview as late as June or July as new opportunities become available. |
