School of Information Sciences: Partners Program

"The Partners Program is an excellent opportunity for students to gain real-world experience."

Richard J. Cox
Professor, Library and Information Science Program

Partners Information

The success of the Partners Program is due in large part to the support of the Pittsburgh community organizations, businesses, and neighboring educational institutions who wish to participate in the University’s mission of a quality education for every student.  Through this Program, Partners offer graduate students in Library and Information Science employment opportunities that provide experience in their chosen field while the Library and Information Science Program provides a partial tuition scholarship.

With every new Partner, our ability to support additional students is strengthened. We encourage you to consider becoming a Partner’s site and share in the benefits of educating LIS students. We serve as your first-step in recruitment by furnishing applicants per your needs who already have some related skills and/or background.  As the term of placement is three consecutive terms of study (fall, spring, and summer), any time spent acclimating the student to the position is advantageous due to the length of placement.

If you wish to discuss the benefits of becoming a Partner, please contact JoAnn Kavalukas at ppartners@sis.pitt.edu or (412) 624-1442

Resources for Partners

"This is the second year that the Rauh Jewish Archives has participated in the Pitt Partners Program. The value of this program is evidenced in the fact that the Pitt Partner from last year is the full time project archivist this year.  I think what makes this such a positive program is that it lasts for a calendar year.  During that time, the student is able to apply the knowledge acquired in the academic program to work in the archives where additional skills, experience, and the understanding of what happens on the ground are acquired."
