CourseWeb

According to the CIDDE at the University of Pittsburgh, the term CourseWeb refers to the University’s implementation of the Blackboard/CourseInfo course management system.  CourseWeb is an integrated software suite that enables faculty members to develop, manage, and use Web pages for instruction.  It offers tools and middleware to administer, grade, and record quizzes, to conduct synchronous chat sessions, and to hold asynchronous threaded discussion groups. It also provides user-friendly software to facilitate the instructor’s efforts to create new Web pages or incorporate existing pages, send e-mail, transfer files to and from students, and manage an online grade book.  It is accessible using standard Web browsers and plug-ins.

Website vs. CourseWeb

While a website serves as a helpful addition to a classroom, educators using CourseWeb can combine multiple websites with other learning materials in order to greater enrich student learning.

Using CourseWeb

The following webpage from the Center for Instructional Development & Distance Education (CIDDE) provides information about the CourseWeb course management system, including how to log in, general information, support for Pitt faculty, and links to training information:

Panopto/CourseCast

A coursecast is a videotaped lecture available in podcast form for later viewing.  Teachers using CourseWeb often have coursecasts of lessons available for student viewing.

Using Panopto/CourseCast (video)

The first half of the video is targeted to instructors who haven’t used Panopto/CourseCast.

The second half of the presentation discusses the hardware and software options that will be available to instructors by the beginning of the Fall Term.  The studio is located in 604 B. There will be an official Open House scheduled later in the term.

You may click on any slide in the Panopto/CourseCast presentation to skip back and forth.
