Are you thinking about teaching an online course? This website will provide you with valuable information regarding distance education as well as general faculty support information about distance education policies and procedures at SIS.
Dear Colleagues:
I am excited to share with you the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences’ plans for an online education support website for faculty members. Online education experts at SIS have met and organized this resource that will prove helpful for not only current online educators, but also those who may be more resistant to exploring and attempting teaching in online environments.
Online education at the School of Information Sciences is occurring at a very exciting time in history. Current students can earn a MLIS degree online through our FastTrack MLIS program from anywhere in the country. Students are allowed to take elective courses online from other Universities accredited by the American Library Association through a collaborative program called Web-based Information Science Education, or WISE. On-campus students have the option of taking courses online to better meet their scheduling needs. Regardless of a student’s learning format, blended courses taught simultaneously on-campus and online give both online and on-campus students the opportunity to work and learn together.
The faculty members who have taught online have found these teaching experiences to be valuable and exciting. The creation of this faculty support website aims to share these experiences with others and also provide potential online educators with much-needed information about the ins and outs of online teaching. This website will surely raise awareness of online education, and hopefully inspire potential participants to step up and try it themselves.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sue Alman
