Course requirements

The following three requirements will be the major determinants of your course grade. Issues such as attendance, participation and effort may play a limited role as well.

  1. Four short quizes, weeks 2-5, (instead of a midterm)
  2. Weekly assignments (due as they are assigned, won't be accepted late)
  3. Final exam
  4. Class participation, answers to in-class questions.

Grading: The first three factors will be the major considerations in grading and will be given equal weighting. The fourth factor may play a role of up to 10% in final grades. The questions on the exams and homeworks will tend to be hard and it is not expected that students will have to get nearly perfect answers to get a high grade in the course. Attendance is required. All assignments are individual and any collaboration on them will be grounds for failure. You are encouraged to discuss class materials with each other but don't cross the line into the actual assignments or how to do them. If you have trouble discerning that line, please see me to discuss it. You are required to register with the class listserv.
