One travels from the mainland to Honolulu (e.g., Hawaiian Air, United, and at least one other carrier). Then one takes an "inter-island" plane to Kona - the big island (not Hilo - that's the wrong side of the island). Then one takes a $40 taxi ride from the airport to the Hilton Waikaloa Village hotel. Along the way, you will see all sorts of writings in the lava. Ask the cabby to pull over and show you the lava tubes as well. After registering, you take a boat, monorail train, or walk to your room - you will find it all convenient - no need to think on this at all.
