Some Basic CommandsOpen A FileFrom the File menu, Open... presents a dialog in which you can select files from your home or other directories to open. Scroll the File to Edit menu, pick the file, and click OK. Close A FileFrom the File menu, Close, closes the the current file being worked on. It is important to pick Close and not Exit, especially if more than one file is currently open, as Exit will close all NEdit windows and files. Save FileFrom the File menu, Save saves the file under its current name and directory. Save As.. presents a dialog in which the file name can
be changed or the directory for the file to be saved in can be changed. The dialog from selecting Save As.. is shown below.
Print FileFrom the File menu, Print presents a dialog in which the number of copies to be printed can be specified as well as which printer to use. Select TextSelecting text for copying, deleting, or replacing can be simply done with a few mouse clicks. Pressing the left mouse button with the pointer at one end of the text you want to select and dragging it to the other end will select text. To select a whole word, double click on that word. Double clicking and dragging will select an number of words. Triple clicking does the same things, but to an entire line. Find/Replace TextOn the search menu, the Find... and Replace... commands can be found. Dialogs are presented in which text can be
entered for searching and replacing. The dialogs will look like those shown below.
Cut/Paste TextThe Cut command, found on the Edit menu, removes the selected text and places it in the clipboard. The Paste command copies the text from the clipboard to the insertion position in the current NEdit window. The Copy command works in the same way as cut, but does not remove the selected text from the file. HelpThe Help menu is located in the upper right hand corner of the NEdit window. It contains all the topics covered in this tutorial and many more. |
