Information Ethics Fund

Background

The Information Ethics Fund came into existence in 1996, five years after the first Information Ethics course was taught in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. The course, first team-taught by Dean Carbo and Professor Almagno in 1989, was the beginning of the Information Ethics Program at SIS. In 1996 Dean Carbo honored Professor Almagno's dedicated efforts and work by initiating a program to support his teaching and research in Information Ethics. The Information Ethics Fund was established to support: an Information Ethics Fellowship; acquisitions of print and non-print library resource materials; and, travel expenses and honoraria for Dean's Forum Speakers.

Upon the completion of her term as SIS Dean in June 2002, Toni Carbo was herself honored with a contribution, made by faculty, staff, and friends, to the Information Ethics Fund.
