All students, whether full or part-time, MUST start
their studies in the Fall term. Archives,
Preservation, and Records Management students must declare
themselves to be in this specialized track by September 30th of the Fall term by completing this
declaration form and submitting
it to their academic advisor.
Archives, Preservation and Records Management students
must take the following five MLIS core requirements:
- LIS 2000 Understanding
Information is required of all students in
the program. Due to
sequencing requirements, Archives and Preservation
students must take this course in the Fall term.
- LIS 2220 Archives and Records Management
- LIS 2223 Archival Access, Advocacy, and Ethics
- LIS
2224 Archival Representation
- LIS
2600 Introduction to Information Technologies
These courses are required for all students
who wish to focus on archives, preservation, and records
management studies within the MLIS degree program.
Required Sequencing for Archives and Records Courses
for Full Time Students
This sequencing of courses provides a rigorous
grounding in archival, preservation, and records management
theory, methodology, and practice. Each course offer
a careful building of theoretical knowledge and practical
applications.
Students with a strong interest in preservation management
as a career can opt to take the Collections Conservation
course (LIS 2216) in the Summer Term as a replacement
for the Field Experience course.
Full Time Course of Study
Part-Time Course of Study
Students in the archives, preservation, and records
management specialization can do the program on a part-time
basis. However, as most of these courses are offered
only once during the academic year, it is required that
students take two courses each term of study (this also
will enable students to follow a coherent course of study).
