Through the use of plug-ins, CASCADE offers the flexibility to work with all types of file
formats. CASCADE works best with XML and ASCII text file formats to easily share knowledge
through documents by their authoring and commenting in the documents. With the addition of
external editors and image viewers through plug-ins, to work with GIF, JPEG, PDF and other file
formats the domain of documents that CASCADE can share is greatly extended. There are three things which you will need to do in order to add a plug-in to CASCADE.
First, you will need to find an application for the category of plug-in for which you will be adding to CASCADE. Categories of plug-ins for CASCADE consist of a web browser, a text editor, a HTML editor, a Postscript viewer, an image viewer, a PDF(Portable Document Format) viewer, a video player and an audio player. If you don't already have applications to use as plug-ins on your system you may want to visit the sources which we have listed here to browse for one and possibly download it for your own use.
CNET at download.com Specifically from the above sources, we would like to point you toward several applications which we feel will offer above average performance and are available as freeware or shareware.
Secondly, you will need to install the application onto you system. Installing an application is usually a simple task and the particular software that you are installing will have instructions readily available to guide you through the installation process. Of course if the application which you wish to use as a plug-in already exists on your system then you will skip this step. Lastly, you will need to modify CASCADE to recognize the application which you will use as a plug-in. You may add plug-ins whenever you wish so if you can only add a few now then the rest later, that is perfectly fine. If you are not familiar with adding plug-ins to CASCADE, please review How do I add a plug-in to CASCADE to learn more. One note, the plug-ins that we use in CASCADE and that are represented in the images that you see throughout this web site are strictly our preference and is not a recommendation for a particular product. |
