FAQ

What if I get a CASCADE application error message?

Note what you were doing at the time of the failure and click the OK button on the error window to close the window. The CASCADE application will terminate and you we have to re-login to CASCADE to continue your work.

Unfortunately application errors do sometimes occur and there are several reasons why;
First, the CASCADE client that you have on your machine may contain programming errors.

Programming errors could occur in three ways:

First, an existing program error, which had not been detected during program testing, exists within the CASCADE client.

Second, a new feature was added to CASCADE by which a negative impact was introduced into the CASCADE client.

And lastly, an issue of timing caused by a double click of the mouse. You will never have to double-click while using CASCADE since it was designed for single click operations.
Another reason for an application error message occurring could be a CASCADE server failure at the University of Pittsburgh. A CASCADE server failure will affect all CASCADE users and you will not be able to login to CASCADE until the server at the University of Pittsburgh is back online.

And lastly, the network to which you are connected may have failed, causing the connection to the CASCADE server to be disconnected. You will not be able to login to CASCADE until your network is back online.

We ask that for any situation in which you receive an CASCADE application error message that you report the failure to your Administrator or the CASCADE Office. Report the failure to the CASCADE Office by entering the failure into the CASCADE Bug Report section on the CASCADE web site at www.sis.pitt.edu/~cascade.
