CASCADE Client FTP Instructions
Latest Release: Version R.028

This page describes how new users can obtain a copy of the CASCADE client via ftp. It may also be used by existing users to upgrade to the current version of the client. The current version is shown in the title above. You can determine the version you are using by looking for a number in the lower left corner of the login screen -- if there is no number there, you definitely need to upgrade. The easiet way for most to get CASCADE is to use your web browser and download the self extracting zip file. You should use this page only if it is not possible for some reason to use your browser.

Once you have downloaded CASCADE, you will want to see the installation instructions for how to set it up on a PC.

A note to net surfers: This software is designed for people who have been invited to use the CASCADE system. CASCADE requires a user to login. Thus, while anyone can download this software, only those with accounts will be able to connect to a server. If you are an academic researcher, or if you think your organization might be able to use CASCADE, we encourage you to contact the developers to see if we can accommodate your needs in some way. See the welcome page for information on getting in touch with us. If you need to get an ftp client for Windows95, you can go to the FTP for Windows95 site and get EasyFTP (eftp.zip), or check WS_FTP .

The most recent copy of the disk images is located on the anonymous ftp server:

ftp.pitt.edu
You should ftp to this site and login to this ftp server as "anonymous" using, by convention, your email address as a password. Once connected, change directory (cd) as follows:
users/s/p/spring
The directory listing at that point should be as follows:
Documentation NIST_SDO X_proto_source
disks exes
The Documentation directory contains postscript and word versions of the same documentation that is available in HTML format at this site. The disks directory is a utility directory used by the default project, in this case the NIST_SDO project. There are additional directories and a file labeled as follows:
DISK1 DISK2 DISK3 DISK4 readme.txt
Your ftp software should allow you to highlight all five entries and retrieve them along with their content.

Once these files which total about four megabytes have been downloaded to your PC you should run the setup program which is in the folder DISK1. It will do a normal windows setup of CASCADE.
