Meteorology
DON SARREALS Sarreals (1931- ) was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He received a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology in 1957 and a Master of Science in 1961 from New York University. He worked for the National Weather Service in the Forecast Office, New York, NY as the Supervisor and Radio Meteorologist from 1961 to 1969. Sarreals was the meteorologist for WRCTV, from 1969 to 1975, concurrently serving as President and Consultant for Storm Finders, Inc. (1969-1976). While he was the Dissemination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service Headquarters from 1976 to 1980, Sarreals was also TV Meteorologist for the Maryland Center for Public Broadcasting. Additionally, he served as the Chief Operator of the NEXRAD Project for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency/National Weather Service (NOAA/NWS).
JAMES TILMON Tilmon (1934- ) was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Lincoln University, where he also took engineering courses. After an eight-year stint with the army corps of engineers and learning to fly, he was elevated to the rank of Captain in the Army Air Corps in 1956. While flying for American Airlines, Tilmon also served as one of the weatherman for NBC-owned WMAQ-TV, Chicago, Illinois from 1974 to 1994, where he won an Emmy in 1974. At the end of 1994, Tilmon left NBC for the Fox Broadcasting station WFLD-TV in Chicago, Illinois.
WARREN MORTON WASHINGTON Washington (1936- ) was born in Portland, Oregon, and received a Ph.D. in Meteorology in 1964 Pennsylvania State University. From 1963, Washington served as a Scientist for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), then from 1969 to 1971 he taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan, Department of Meteorology and Oceanography. Since 1993 he has been Climate Division Director for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, a facility which tracks violent weather and studying models of the oceans’ moderating effects and global warming.
