NOTABLE AFRICAN AMERICANS
This project was originally started as an Independent Study we decided to undertake in our pursuit of an M.L.I.S degree at the University of Pittsburgh. The lack of accurate bibliographic resources available on the Internet has created a vacuum of pertinent information. The purpose of this website is to provide bibliographic information on African Americans who were pioneers in their respective fields. We have attempted to cover both those individuals who are widely known and those whom history has forgotten.
Although every effort has been made to make this site as comprehensive as possible, it is by no means complete. We have chosen to leave out links and additional references from most of the entries. This decision was made since additional information on most of the entries can be found easily via a quick Internet search. However, in the case of some of the more obscure individuals profiled, we have added accompanying references and links.
The entries contained on this webpage are intended to provide a quick overview of notable African-Americans catalogued by their field. We hope that the information provided will inspire people to look more deeply into the lives of the men and women who were important not only to African-Americans but to all Americans.
