I
graduated with an MLIS from SIS in August 2001. In my library
studies, I concentrated primarily on digital preservation in
academic institutions. While at SIS, I became very involved
with several digital technologies courses. These and other
courses provided platforms for learning web development and
search
and retrieval systems.
After completing my MLIS, I started my first job in the
field as the Digital Acquisitions Specialist at DePauw
University in Greencastle, Indiana. In this position,
I provide a leadership role in developing and maintaining
multimedia services and collections for the newly created
Digital
Media Lab within the library. Additionally, I support
the University community's need for the digital acquisition
of data, as well as helping to guide the
library's growing collection of digital resources for instructional
and research use. I also have a role within the University's
eLearning Initiative, providing guidance, instruction and
supervision to technology interns working within the program.
I began the MLIS program with minimal technical skills; without
the professional instruction I received from SIS faculty,
I would not be equipped to succeed in this profession.
