The SIS Alumni Relations Office, along with the Pitt Alumni Association, is proud to be the voice of over 11,000 SIS graduates from 32 countries!  We encourage you to attend some great alumni events, network with fellow graduates, and come back to visit us to see how your alma mater may have changed.

  Geocaching Alumni/Student Event

A Geocaching event is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2008 for SIS alumni and students!  For anyone unfamiliar with geocaching, it is “the sport where you are the search engine.”  According to Wikipedia, “Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which participants use Global Positioning System (GPS) devices or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world.  A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and "treasure," usually toys or trinkets of little monetary value. Today, well over 350,000 geocaches are currently placed in 222 countries around the world, which are registered on various websites devoted to the sport.”

The SIS event will resemble a typical hunt in that there will be caches hidden on campus for teams of students and alumni to find. The caches will contain prizes too!  If you have never heard of geocaching, don’t know how to work a GPS device, or are looking for a fun way to come back to campus then this is the event for you! We will have geoinformatics students and “cachers” on hand for assistance! For further information on this event, please email alumnisociety@sis.pitt.edu.
