    Fortran (ISO/IEC 1539:1991)

    Intro to standard

    Fortran is a programming language that has its main power in mathematic programming. It was invented by IBM in 1957. It became popular among scientists and engineers, and the result is an enormous amount of algorithms written in this language. It has been standardized in 1966, 1977 and 1990.

    Standard-resources

    The standard organization ISO is on-line. They offer several documents for sale.

    There are however many fortran-resources on the net too. Of course there is aFortran Users Group, and some Fortran 90 Tutorials. There is also a page for Windows Fortran Development and Conversion Services. The Fortran FAQ is also available as a web-page.

    There are severeal places to get Fortran software/libraries:

    • Fortran 90 Software Repository has public algorithms, etc.
    • Fortran Market has references to things to buy or get for free.
    • Garnatz and Grovender, Inc. has links to Shareware software.
    • Unicomp, Inc. provides Fortran software and services.
