Wuhan University

February 11, 2010

Last week at the iSchools Conference at UIUC, I met with the dean and three faculty members from Wuhan University’s School of Information Management (SIM)

    • We shared templates for our institutions’ MOUs and agreed to develop one between SIS and SIM
    • I received a preliminary invitation from Dean Chuanfu Chen to deliver the keynote speech at their school’s 90th anniversary celebration in October
    • Pitt SIS was invited to be an international co-sponsor (with UIUC) of Wuhan’s third international symposium on LIS education and management held at 5 year intervals (prior ones were held in 2000 and 2005)
    • I invited Dean Chen to participate in a proposed NSF workshop focusing on foundational research directions for iSchools (“New Configurations”)
    • Wuhan announced an international student contest that brings up to 30 students to Wuhan for 8 days of educational, cultural, and touring events during the summer. The announcement is available here. Wuhan pays students’ expenses while they are in Wuhan, but the students are responsible for their transportation to Wuhan. I would anticipate that SIS would provide some modest travel stipend to help with airfare if our students are selected.
