Planning grant awarded from Mellon Diversity Initiative

February 5, 2009

The School has received a planning grant of $100K to develop a full proposal for a residential summer program designed to introduce rising undergraduate seniors from under-represented segments of the population to academic careers in information schools.  The program will be launched in summer 2010 for a cohort of 10 – 15 students. Each year, a new cohort will be added, with the intention of providing ongoing mentoring to these students as they pursue graduate study and move on to academic careers. The iSchools at Penn State and Drexel are partners in the initiative, which is being led by Toni Carbo and Kip Currier.
