Faculty-authored textbooks used in Pitt courses

April 2 , 2008

University policy precludes faculty from receiving royalties for books they have authored that are used in Pitt courses. Faculty who use books authored by other Pitt faculty are required to inform the University Bookstore of that use. The bookstore has agreed to reduce the price of books so-identified by the amount of the royalty. A good faith effort should also be made by the author to identify or estimate royalties generated from student purchases of their books from other sources (e.g., Amazon).  A SIS policy to this effect has been requested by the Provost’s Office and is under development.
