Enrollment update
September 21, 2011
Total enrollment (headcount) for the fall term is 721, broken down as follows:
BSIS: 148
MSIS: 137
MST: 33
MLIS: 312 (126 FastTrack, 186 on campus)
PhD IS: 39
PhD Tele: 17
PhD LIS: 22
CAS IS: 0
CAS TELE: 2
CAS LIS: 11
MLIS enrollment is dropping. This has been anticipated, given the employment outlook, but it deserves our attention to not only understand its source but to also respond in a manner that identifies alternative employment options for MLIS graduates and to assure that we prepare them for such alternatives. Enrollment continues to improve at a modest rate in IS (both undergraduate and graduate), but the proportion of admitted students to registered students suggests that we can do better in both the MSIS and MST programs. We would do well to understand why only 22% of the students admitted actually register, and to consider interventions that could increase this yield.
