  All Degree Programs  
     
 

Robert R. Korfhage Award. This annual award of $500 form a fund established in his honor by students, colleagues, alumni, and friends recognizes a student who submits the best scholarly paper co-authored with a faculty member with the intent to encourage more student-faculty collaborative research and development in the information sciences, something he had done so effectively throughout his career.

SELECTION PROCESS: students submit paper to the Dean.

William Z. Nasri Award for Legal Issues in Information Handling. This annual award of $500 is established through donations from alumni, friends, and colleagues in honor of William Z. Nasri's contributions to the field and his 30 years of dedicated service to SIS and the University of Pittsburgh. Papers submitted must relate to the legal issues and legal implications in dealing with information handling, be scholarly in nature, and their content must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the subject.

Catherine Ofiesh Orner Award. This annual award of $500 established by Dr. Gerald Orner in memory of his wife, an alumna of the School, recognizes a SIS student who writes the most original and innovative paper in the field of information science as judged by a faculty committee.

  Undergraduate Information Science Program  
     
 

Anthony Debons Award. The Anthony Debons Award is presented annually to an undergraduate student for outstanding contributions to the Bachelor of Science in Information Science program. Anthony Debons is a professor emeritus in the Graduate Information Science and Technology Program.

The Ida M. Flynn Memorial Award – given to students in recognition of excellence and outstanding contributions to the BSIS Program.  Awardees selected by faculty committee.

The Jennifer & Eric Spiegel Technology and Communications Essay Award – to be used to support a full-time student in the BSIS Program at SIS in the Spring Term and a full time undergraduate communications major in A&S in the Fall term.

  Graduate Information Science & Technology Program  
     
 

Information Engineering Competition Award. The Information Engineering Competition recognizes outstanding achievement in the design and execution of a software system that incorporates efficient computation, effective human-computer interfaces, and high level information manipulation. This year's award will be $500 from a fund established with royalties contributed from the book Electronic Printing and Publishing: the Document Processing Revolution. In addition to the cash prize, the winning student(s) will have their name(s) inscribed on the Information Engineering Competition plaque in the student lounge and will be recognized at the Annual Honors Convocation.

Allen Kent Award. The Allen Kent Award is presented annually to a graduate student who makes an outstanding contribution to the MSIS program (Master of Science in Information Science). Allen Kent is a Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Graduate Information Science and Technology Program. Awardees selected by faculty committee.

  Graduate Library and Information Science Program  
     
 

Jay Daily Award. The Jay Daily Award is presented annually to a graduate student who makes an outstanding contribution to either the MLIS or PhD program in Library and Information Science. Jay Daily was Professor Emeritus in the Library and Information Science Program.

The Sarah C. Cohen Award for outstanding student in a High School Library Practicum.
SELECTION PROCESS: selected by faculty committee.

Margaret Mary Corbett Memorial Award. This annual award of $500 from a fund established in her honor by students, alumni, faculty, and friends, for her dedication as Secretary to the Doctoral Program, will be presented to the student in the Library and Information Science Program who submits the best doctoral dissertation proposal in a given year.

Harold Lancour Award for Excellence in International and Comparative Study in Library and Information Science. This annual award of $200 from a fund established in honor of Harold Lancour, founding dean of SIS, by students, colleagues, and friends, recognizes a SIS student whose achievement in the field of international and comparative studies is judged outstanding by the faculty.

The School Library Certification Program Student Award – given to SLCP students nominated by LIS faculty who exemplify academic excellence and professional promise as school librarians.

  Telecommunications Program  
     
 

Fritz Froehlich Award. The Fritz Froehlich Award is presented annually to a graduate student who makes an outstanding contribution to the graduate program in telecommunications. Professor Fritz Froehlich was instrumental in developing the telecommunications program at SIS.
