  Who is George Woods?

George Woods became chancellor in 1858 and embraced the challenge of making the University competitive with other institutions in the eastern United States.  During his time as chancellor, Woods created the University’s endowment, founded science and engineering programs, and increased enrollment.  Throughout his 22-year tenure, Chancellor Woods strengthened the University’s reputation as a source of classical education.
