Ellen Detlefsen, lead faculty for the Medical Librarianship/Informatics
Specialization in the MLIS Program, will receive a 2007
WISE Faculty of the Year Award for Excellence in Online
Education. Dr. Detlefsen will receive the award
at the WISE Best Practices for Online Pedagogy Workshop
at the Association for Library and Information Science
Education on January 8, 2008.
This award is given to faculty nominated by WISE students
from institutions other than the faculty member's home
institution. Students in Applications in Medical
Informatics who do NOT attend the University of Pittsburgh
nominated Dr. Detlefsen for this award.
At the January 8 ceremony, all WISE Faculty of Year
awardees receive a crystal WISE globe to illustrate the
global network of WISE consortium members and online
students.
Web-based Information Science Education (WISE) is a collaborative
distance education model that increases the quality, access,
and diversity of online education opportunities in Library
and Information Science. The WISE consortium has
grown to 15 members and has offered over 200 courses to
over 300 students since 2004. The consortium feels
that it is important to honor best practices in online
education with the WISE Faculty of the Year Awards given
to faculty selected by students who have taken courses
as part of the WISE consortium.
