SIS welcomes Dr. Feng Cao, Software Engineer at CISCO
Systems, as the next speaker in the LERSAIS Seminar Series. Dr.
Cao will discuss “Providing Secure Services in
Peer-to-Peer Communications Networks with Central Security
Servers” on Friday, April 20 from 2:00 pm to 3:30
pm in Room 404 of the IS Building. The series is
hosted by the Laboratory of Education and Research on
Security Assured Information Systems at the School of
Information Sciences.
Dr. Cao will examine how various applications based
on Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technology have being gaining attention
for their innovative approaches to providing value-added
services. At the same time, the trend has introduced
new research topics on how to provide the secure services
inside new distributed P2P environments.
This talk outlines a generic architecture for providing
secure information in P2P IP Networks. Some secure techniques
and components are shown to guarantee privacy of various
information sharing services. Session Initiation Protocol
(SIP) is demonstrated to provide the basic operations
for this architecture. Some open research topics are
discussed for further studies.
Dr. Feng Cao received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science
from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 1997.
He received his B.S. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics
from Tsinghua University, Beijing, in 1990 and 1992. He
has been with several leading research institutions and
industrial organizations, including SGI Cray Research,
Honeywell Technology Center, NTT Labs, and Cisco Systems.
He has led international teams on various research and
development projects in network security, video conferencing,
Voice-Over-IP, and Quality of Service. He has been involved
in international standards activities as part of the
Internet Engineer Task Force (IETF) and Telecommunication
Industry Association (TIA).
