Toni Carbo, Professor at the University
of Pittsburgh’s School of Information Sciences
and Graduate School of Public and International Affairs,
was recognized with a 2007 Service Award from the Association
for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE). ALISE
is a national forum for library educators to share
ideas, to discuss issues, and to seek solutions to
common problems. Dr. Carbo has been an active member
and leader within ALISE including serving on the Board
of Directors from 1996–2000 (as 1997 President);
chairing the ALISE Conference Committee for several
years, and serving on the Governance Committee in 2005
and 2006. Carbo convened annual conference sessions,
served as a presenter and moderator, and participated
in many other ALISE conference panels and programs.
According to the award nomination, “Dr. Carbo's
efforts have enhanced the reputation, stature, and overall
value of ALISE. Dr. Carbo has consistently approached
the positions she has held as opportunities to move ALISE
forward.”
