The students in LIS 2830, Marketing Libraries, have developed
several projects to observe National Library Week (NLW),
April 2-8, 2006. The theme of this year's event is "Change
Your World @ Your Library."
The students are creating a vodcast promoting libraries
and hosting "Speed Networking: Meet Your Research
Partner" which will bring together researchers from
diverse fields. Both projects, planned and implemented
by the students, will showcase the impact that libraries
can have on our lives and our communities.
The vodcast will premiere during NLW and offers
a lighthearted look at the possibilities for changing
the world. Titled
"Rock n' Roll Library," it features the
transformation of a young college student by simply
checking out a few books from the library. The short
film, in tribute to this year's NLW theme, encourages
viewers to look beyond routine library resources.
Even before its release,
"Rock n' Roll Library" has been getting
national attention via a blog on ALA TechSource,
which features weekly posts about the project. Visit http://www.techsource.ala.org/blog/2006/03/contemplating-the-library.html to
follow this group of students as they utilize technology
to mark the celebrations.
Graduate students and faculty are invited to attend
"Speed Networking: Meet Your Research Partner,"
scheduled for Thursday, April 6, from 1:00 pm to 2:30
pm in 527 William Pitt Union. Based on the "speed
dating" concept, speed networking will allow researchers
to discuss their work in the hopes of finding others
in the region with similar interests. This event is
intended to facilitate the open discussion of research
ideas within and across disciplines. Rotating around
the room, each participant will have two minutes to
share his/her research interests with each of the other
participants one-on-one. No reservations are required.
Researchers from Pitt and CMU are invited to join in
this event.
SIS invites you to participate in "Speed Networking"
to discover the research possibilities available to
you. In addition, be sure to view "Rock n' Roll
Library" and join in the National Library Week
celebrations.
