Congratulations to three SIS students who were honored
with awards as part of the Eli Lilly IT Scholarship
Fund at the University of Pittsburgh! Courtney Machi,
Lauren Wright and Tina Donnarummo are juniors in
the Bachelor’s degree program at the School
of Information Sciences. Courtney was awarded a tuition
scholarship, while Lauren and Tina were recognized
with Book Awards from Eli Lilly and Company. Eli
Lilly and Company, a publicly held company with headquarters
in Indianapolis, is a pharmaceutical corporation
with more than 43,000 employees worldwide. The corporation
is best known for its research and development efforts
in the areas of infections, depression and diabetes.
Eli Lilly is a generous supporter of the University
and this IT Scholarship program reflects the company’s
interest in supporting the education of future information
professionals.
The students were selected for these scholarships
based on their academic record all achieving GPAs of
3.5 or higher, references from faculty, and leadership
capabilities. The recipients of the scholarships were
selected by a committee comprised of SIS advisors and
faculty, as well as representatives of Eli Lilly and
Company.
Ms. Machi, winner of the tuition scholarship, is working
toward her Bachelor’s degree in Information Science
with related areas in Computer Science and Business.
Courtney has a student job in the Strategic Applications
Department at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center
where she works on a team designing software applications.
Machi is the public relations officer for the Society
of Women in Computing, a member of the ACM Pitt Chapter,
and a member of the National Society for Collegiate
Scholars.
Ms. Wright, winner of a Book Award, is working toward
a dual degree in Information Science and Sociology.
She is also studying for her Certificates in Children's
Literature and American Sign Language. Lauren is a
member of Lambda Sigma, Phi Eta Sigma, Golden Key,
Sigma Alpha Lambda, and National Society of Collegiate
Scholars honor societies.
Ms. Donnarummo, also a Book Award recipient, is well
on her way to a Bachelor’s Degree in Information
Science with a minor in French Language and Literature.
She hopes to remain at Pitt to earn her Masters in
Information Science Degree.
The School of Information Sciences is pleased that
these three exceptional students are being recognized
for their scholarship and leadership skills. SIS would
also like to thank Eli Lilly and Company for their
generous support of education in the Information Sciences. |
