CCLI: Individualized Exercises for Assessment and Self-Assessment

Source: National Science Foundation ( $98,923 )
PI: Peter Brusilovsky
Duration: 9/1/03 - 8/31/05
More Info: http://www2.sis.pitt.edu/~taler/QuizPACK.html

Abstract: The research focus of the CCLI project is to systematically explore the use of individualized questions and exercises in the context of programming-related courses. This approach was championed by the Michigan State CAPA (Computer-Assisted Personalized Approach) system in the context of teaching physics where it demonstrated its potential to help larger percentage of the students to complete the course successfully. The PI thinks that the ideas of CAPA approach can be successfully applied in programming-related courses and suggest a possible way to implement individualized programming exercises. In the course of the proposed project he plans to extend the proof-of-concept system QuizPACK in several aspects and to run a series of studies to find the ways of using this technology in programming-related courses that maximize its strong sides and minimize known problems.
