Security assured information systems in telecommunications track of study print friendly

Providing security and assurance to information systems has emerged as one of the most daunting technological and social challenges of recent times. Major corporations and private industry are expending a great deal of resources to develop cybersecurity technology to secure their information systems. SIS is pleased to meet the expected demand for professionals trained in secure information systems by offering the SAIS track of study. This track will provide a unique education in the development, design and deployment of secure information systems with an emphasis on networked information systems. It will produce information technology professionals with the ability to meet special security challenges (e.g., intrusion detection) posed by conventional and emerging network information systems.
 
Track Prerequisites
 
Students must have taken IS 2500 or the equivalent prior to entering the Security Track.
 
Courses And Electives
 

Core Requirements 9 credits

  • TEL 2210 Physical Layer of Communications 2
  • TEL 2120 Network Performance
  • TEL 2310 Computer Networks

Human Communication Management and Policy 6 credits

  • IS2300 Human Information Processing
  • TEL 2510 US Telecom Policy or TEL 2511 International Telecom Policy or IS 2210 Information Ethics

Protocols and Design 6 credits

  • TEL 2110 Network Design or TEL 2121 Network Management or TEL 2321 WANs or TEL 2770 Cellular and Wireless Networks or TEL 2721 Mobile Data, Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks

SAIS Track Core 12 credits

  • IS 2150/TEL 2810 Introduction to Security
  • IS 2170/TEL 2820 Cryptography
  • TEL 2821 Network Security
  • IS 2629/TEL 2830 Capstone Course in Security

SAIS Track Electives 3 credits

  • TEL 2825 Information Systems & Network Infrastructure Protection
  • IS 2731 Security in E-Commerce
  • IS 2621/TEL 2813 Security Management
  • TEL 2829 Advanced Cryptography

Upon completion of a SAIS track, students will given certificates for CNSS standards 4011, 4012, and 4013. If a student has taken IS2621/TEL2813: Security Management to fulfill the elective requirement, the certificates for CNSS 4014 and 4015 will also be provided.
