Girasole:
The Sunflower of  Walnut Street

A Restaurant Review

Just off of Shadyside's Walnut Street, on Copeland Street across from Starbucks, is a cozy and charmingly authentic Italian restaurant. Everything at Girasole is welcoming, fresh and light: from the owners, the Girasole family, who occupy a table at the front of the restaurant almost every evening, to the extensive and delicious seasonal menus.

The menu itself features home-made soups, antipastos, bruschetta, and a variety of pasta dishes that can charm even the most picky of food critics. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff are very helpful and will gladly offer suggestions according to your taste. Prices are reasonable; for two people, you can expect to spend around $30 (including appetizer).

We highly recommend the salads and the different pastas. The menu depends on the season and they offer different menus for lunch and dinner. Some of the pasta dishes on the current menu include spinach and ricotta ravioli in a tomato cream sauce, and fettuccine with asparagus and ricotta in a light lemon sauce. Desserts include tiramisu and strawberry whipped cream cake. Interesting note: Girasole will deliver desserts for special occasions. They also deliver to selected surrounding areas (minimum order $30) and are available for private parties. Check the website for more details.

Overall, the atmosphere, food, and service lend Girasole to be an excellent choice for dining out. It is a popular restaurant and they do not take reservations.
