The New Website As some of you may have noticed, the Department of Library and Information Science website has received a facelift. Gone are the bare, glaring white pages and the neon yellow and blue logo that looked like it had been through the wash a few times (on the top level pages, at least)! What we have now is an updated site that promotes the department’s mission and reputation. The overall design of the DLIS site is patterned after the SIS website, which had also been overhauled earlier in the year. The DLIS homepage has been designed to be a gateway for every type of visitor, from prospective and current students to faculty and staff, as well as alumni and other visitors. As with the main SIS site, the front page features articles showcasing the accomplishments and happenings of the department and its personnel. This area of the site will continue to grow and develop to include information on career development, announcements of school achievements, and updates on alumni and current students. Follow the link to read further into any one of these articles, or use one of the numerous navigational menus at the top and side to find what you’re looking for, whether it’s the homepage of your favorite professor, or financial aid information for the coming year. The academic content of the new site is essentially the same; degree requirements, course listings, academic calendars, and other registration information are just a mouse click away. As part of the school’s commitment to technology, the application process can now be conducted completely online through a new interactive form; in addition, all required forms are available for download as PDFs or as Word documents. Perhaps one of the most useful features of the site is the improved faculty and staff directory. Need to know more about a professor? Find him or her in the alphabetical listing and you’ll be given a short description as well as a photo (courtesy of Archival Studies student and GSA Deirdre Scaggs). Another click can take you to any of their course syllabi, publications, or their homepage. This directory is a handy tool for new students who aren’t yet familiar with the faculty. So, if you haven’t checked out the new DLIS website, take a few moments to peruse. You might just discover something new! Publication of the Department of Library & Information
