Richard J. Cox participated in a panel discussion, "Vandals in the Stacks
or Barbarians at the Gate? The Response of Archivists and Librarians to
Nicholson Baker's 'Double Fold,'" at Simmons College, Boston, on March
27th.

Richard J. Cox taught a workshop, "Archival Appraisal Practice in a New
Millennium," at the Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information
Science, Boston, on March 29th.

Richard J. Cox attended the Society of American Archivists Publications Board
meeting, in his capacity as Publications Editor, in Chicago, April 4-6,
2003.

Richard J. Cox published "La valoracion como un acta de memoria," Tabula:
Revista De Archivivos De Castilla Y Leon no. 6 (2003): 51-73.

Ellen Detlefsen recently taught two CE workshops:
"The Psychiatrist and the Internet: Searching the Literature," Annual
Meeting, American College of Psychiatrists, Vancouver BC, February 2003.
"What Patients Are Learning on the Internet," Annual Meeting, American
College of Psychiatrists, Vancouver BC, February 2003.

And some alumni news:

Stacy Aldrich, a 1992 MLIS alumna, was named one of Library Journal's
“50 Movers and Shakers” for 2003. Stacy is currently a public library consultant
with the Division of Library Development and Services, Maryland State Department
of Education.

Colette Hochstein, an MLIS alumna, received the EEO Special Achievement Award
(a National Institutes of Health Award) from the National Library of Medicine,
for outstanding support to conduct meetings that accommodate disabled individuals.
She also recently published  the following article: Tox Town: A New Approach to
Presenting Toxic Chemical and Environmental Health Information. January-March 2003.

Gertrude S. Koh, a PhD alumna, wrote the following article: Innovations in Standard Classroom Instruction."
Cataloging and Classification Quarterly 34(3): 263.

Susan Lanna, a 1996 MLIS alumna, was named one of Library Journal's
“50 Movers and Shakers” for 2003. Susan is currently Humanities Department
Head at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. She was selected to represent Pennsylvania
at the Library Leadership Institute at Snowbird, 2000, and at the Urban Libraries
Council Executive Leadership Institute, 2003.

Karrie Peterson, MLIS alumna, was appointed head of government information services
at the North Carolina State University libraries in Raleigh, NC.

Tom Weissinger, an MLIS alumnus, is currently the Afro-American Studies Bibliographer
and Associate Professor of Library Administration at the University of Illinois Library in
Urbana, IL. He recently published the following article: Competing models of librarianship.
The Journal of Academic Librarianship 29(1):32-39.

Mark Vrabel, MLIS alumnus and current CAS/LIS student, received a MLA/MIS Career
Development Grant, to be used to develop the Oncology Nursing Society’s Evidence-Based Practice Resources Center. http://onsopcontent.ons.org/toolkits/ebp/index.htm
In addition, Mark’s poster, “Assisting the Oncology APN in Fostering
Evidence-Based Practice: The Role of the Librarian” has been accepted for
presentation at the annual MLA meeting.
