Donald W. King and Carol Tenopir (University of Tennessee) published the

Donald W. King and Carol Hansen Montgomery (Dean of Libraries, Drexel University)
published the following article: “After Migration to an Electronic Journal
Collection: Impact on faculty and doctoral students.” December 2002. D-Lib

Donald W. King and Helen Belefant-Miller have a brief communication in
JASIST 54(7), 2003. “A Profile of Faculty Reading and Information-Use Behaviors
on the Cusp of the Electronic Age.”
Donald W. King and Carol Hansen Montgomery made a presentation at the January
ALISE meeting, “A Real World Research Collaboration that is Working: Case
Study” (published in the proceedings). They will make a presentation at
the April ACRL meeting, “An ‘All’ Electronic Journal Collection in a University
Environment: Two Years Later” (published in the proceedings) and present
a plenary session with Peter Boyce and Carol Tenopir at the June NASIG meeting
and the Charleston Conference in the fall, “How the Electronic Journals
are Changing patterns of Journal Use.”
Donald W. King will present a plenary address, “Journal Use and Value,”
on May 22, 2003, to a library and publishing conference in Beijing, China.
Donald W. King is working with JSTOR to examine costs of university print
and electronic collections. IN addition to JSTOR staff, Sarah Aerni (DLIS
student), Ann Okerson (Yale University), and Roger Schonfeld (Mellon Foundation)
are working on the project. A small gift to the Sarah Fine Institute is
forthcoming.
Arlene Taylor and Daniel Joudrey published the following article: "On Teaching
Subject Cataloging" Cataloging & Classification Quarterly. 2002. 34(1/2):223-232.
Arlene Taylor presented a paper "Teaching Authority Control" at The International
Conference on Authority Control: Definition and International Experiences,
in Florence, Italy, February 10-12, 2003. The paper is available on the

Hong Xu co-authored the following article with Pang, Jin: “Bridging Library
Resources Across the Pacific: The Characteristics of U.S. Academic Users
and their Use of a Gateway Service.” 2003. The Electronic Library, 21(1):8-20.
Hong Xu was invited to join the Editorial Advisory Board of the Electronic
Library, beginning November, 2003.
The ASIST SIG/III (International Information Issues) chaired by Hong Xu
won the 2002 SIG of the Year for the third year in a row. For details, please

Hong Xu and Donald King wrote the technical report, “The Role of Library
Consortia in Electronic Journal Services,” included in the book The Consortium
Site License: Is it a sustainable model? Pearce, Anthony, ed. Oxford, England:
Ingenta Institute, 2002. ISBN 0-9541897-1-0. The book also contains a keynote
paper by Hong Xu and Donald King: “An Appraisal of the Consortium Licensing

ALUMNI NEWS
Becky Abromitis, an MLS alumna currently working at the Western Psychiatric
Institute and Clinic (WPIC) Library, published the following article: “Building

Sarah Aerni, December 2002 graduate of the DLIS program, is working temporarily
with the University Library System on the library cost study of print and
electronic journal collections and a corresponding faculty and student readership
survey. Also involved are Donald W. King and Amy Knapp, DLIS research professor
and adjunct faculty. Sarah is working on other library studies as well.
Deborah Hile Charbonneau, an MLIS alumna, published the following article:

Yale Fineman, an MLIS alumnus, has assumed duties as music librarian/head

Nancy L. Herron, Ph.D. alumna, is the general editor of an updated and
expanded edition of The Social Sciences: A Cross-Disciplinary Guide to Selected
Sources. (2002).
Hwa-Wei Lee, Dean Emeritus of Ohio University Libraries (since 1999) and
Visiting Distinguished Scholar of OCLC (2000-2001) was recently named Chief
of the Asian Division at the Library of Congress. Dr. Lee earned his M.Ed.,
M.L.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. During his career,
he has worked in various library positions at the University of Pittsburgh
(1959-1962), Duquesne University (1962-1965), Edinboro University of Pennsylvania,
Asian Institute of Technology, Colorado State University, and Ohio University.
He has published five books and 70 papers, organized six international conferences,
and served as an editor for six library journals.
Larry N. Osborne, Ph.D. alumnus, co-authored with Margaret Nakamura
the second edition of Systems Analysis for Librarians and Information Professionals.

Robert Stueart, Ph.D. alumnus, co-authored with Barbara B. Moran the updated
and expanded sixth edition of Library and Information Center Management. (2002).
