Food Facts
Part 2 - Forbes Avenue

The Original Hot Dog Shop, otherwise known as the "O"
 - You can't live in Pittsburgh and not at least once eat at the O. Their fries are legendary. A small will feed one very hungry person, or two or three not-so-hungry people. I recommend the cheese sauce, but you can also get gravy or ketchup. Best first experienced at 3 in the morning, with a pack of slightly inebriated people, if at all possible.
Hemingway's  - The hangout of the undergrad English department (you know, those types that sit around and smoke and write in their journals). I have never been in here with a male who has NOT commented on the waitstaff. So I guess they're cute? The food is nothing special, but you go for the atmosphere and deep thoughts. And the waitstaff.
Sushi Boat  - This is actually on a little side street.Their miso soup is good, hot, and plentiful. You can get a roll special and soup for around $6, not too bad. And sushi is good for you.
Fuel and Fuddle  - Not a bad place to watch sporting events. Good salads and sandwiches, and quite the array of beers.
Peter's Pub - Horrible place to watch sporting events. Let's not mention the food.
Pamela's - Trust me, the line is worth it, and it moves very quickly. The homefries are delicious, and the coffee is strong. The pancakes are things of beauty, with crispy, lacy edges. Try the pancake specials available only on weekends - banana chocolate chip; banana walnut; strawberries, brown sugar, and sour cream; apple walnut.
Brueggers, Starbucks, Subway, McDonald's, Burger King   - Did I get them all? Lots of chains, but now you know they're there. I will say that the BK is one of the few still open, and they serve frozen Coca-Cola, so if the Slurpee machine up the street at the 7-11 is on the fritz, try one of these.

There are several newish places, among them Joe Mama (Italian) and Qdoba (Mexican). There are also some smallish places on side streets - a noodle shop, pizza, a coffee shop (Crazy Mocha), things like that. There's a bakery, and two more bagel/deli places (Schlotzky's and Schwartz's). Feel free to report back.

Next month: Restaurant Row - Atwood Street.
